All of the guides with Olympic Peninsula Guides Association were so skilled and willing to share their knowledge and love of the rivers. They gave us loads of playful attention- our faces say it all!! Your generosity and organization were incredible; I hope this happens every year!!"

On Saturday, April 20, 2019, in coordination with this years’ Rainfest, the Olympic Peninsula Guides’ Association (OPGA) will be putting on our second annual Free Community River Float event. Although our guides typically spend their days catching fish, the OPGA wants to share with our community the amazing scenic experience created by our stunning rivers as they flow out of the heart of the Olympic National Park.
Beginning at 8 a.m., shuttles (sponsored by the Forks Chamber of Commerce and Tim Fletcher) will be leaving from the Forks Thriftway parking lot for a 2-hour scenic float on one of our local rivers. Shuttles will leave frequently throughout the day. Our boats can hold 2 or 3 people. If your group is larger we will try our hardest to have you float on the same section and time. Pre-booking the float will be prioritized by residents that live in Forks and our surrounding communities and will be on a first-come first-serve basis. We will also have some slots available the day of the event for walk-up registration (also on a first-come first-serve basis). We will try and accommodate as many people as we can and will go as late as 5 pm if there is enough demand. This year, due to the low water, we will be traveling down to the Hoh River which will mean some extra travel time and a 2.5 hour float, so please plan for about 4 hours from start to finish.
Please bring warm clothing, rain jackets, sunscreen and your camera! Minimum age is 6 years old and all those under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Life jackets for adults will be provided. We will have some children’s life vests, but please feel free to bring one that fits your child if you have it. Liability waivers will be provided at check-in and must be completed before departure.
Beginning at noon, we will also have root beer floats available (sponsored by Forks Outfitters). All are welcome to stop in and get a root beer float, even if you can’t join us on the river.
Come join us for a day of fun and experience our area rivers from the viewpoint of a boat or raft! To pre-register please complete the form below:
With an event like this, there are a lot of moving parts and behind the scenes coordination.
We ask that you are patient with us as we navigate the logistics.
